Mine has the safety, but it was previously owned, and at $314, I wasn't going to let it get away. They've been few and far between around here, with prices floating around $400 +/-. The nice thing about it, I can simply leave it disengaged if I so desire. Since I carry it in a Sticky holster, I don't have to worry getting something caught in the trigger, I simply return the gun to the holster, and insert the whole affair back in my waistband. I'm covered either way.
Now, sling that mud. 
One other positive... the Shield fired my reloads and my chosen defense ammo, wonderfully. Win, win all around.
