Good point! There seem to be two kinds of Shields out there. One that requires herculean strength to rack and others that are more normal compared to other like sized guns.
I had the former and after another S&W provided RSA, was just as hard as before. Finally traded it on a Walther PPS which, though stiff, can be racked by mere mortals. If you can try several at your LGS, you may find the easier to rack kind which will then fulfill its promise.
