I read the commentary on Chief's Specials and I am confused about the frame designation.

Is the gun I just bought, photos above, an "Improved I" frame or is it a "J" frame? It is a rounded trigger guard model with the shorter grip, but since the frame was enlarged to accommodate the 38 special, which would it be considered?
