If you value "manning up with 40cal" over being as effective and proficient as you can be via the 9mm, then stick with the 40.
If you want to shoot 8 round strings of 9mm at the range and carry 7 of 40, also your prerogative. I just don't think the extra cost of a barrel and disparity in training to carry is worth the bit of ammo cost saving.
I agree with this. Muscle memory is everything. I remember a post on this forum that said, "anyone that says they shoot better with a .40cal than a 9mm is a liar." I shot mainly .40cal for 4 years straight. There is a point where you aren't even aware of recoil. When I occasionally shot 9mm I was not better! I shoot both now and enjoy both.
