Mike,

-My Army is stamped S&W .38 Mil (13664)
-My Navy is not stamped (5048)
-Commercial is marked .38 Special CTG (14649)
-I previously owned serial number 39 in .32 Winchester and it was correctly roll marked as such.
-I have a project 4-digit .32 Winchester and it is the same.

I have never seen a .32 that wasn't caliber marked.
I have only seen the dual .38 stamp on 1902 and later.

My Army was factory refinished in Nickel in the 1920's. It will chamber a 38 Special so I always assumed it had been reamed longer. Good info above that it was originally chambered for .38 Special.

Added: I just checked again. My Army WILL chamber a .38 Spl but my Navy WILL NOT.
