Try the vertical shoulder holster as suggested. My Dad carried a 6-inch Smith .38 throughout WWII in the Aleutians and SE Asia using a leather shoulder holster. I used the same revolver and holster as a boarding officer on a USCG icebreaker and high-endurance cutter in the late 60's and early 70's. Worked just fine. This holster has a built-in spring clip surrounding the cylinder for retention.
