I don't have a bodyguard but since the Shield 9 is similar in size, I'll give a comment anyway.

I've found that the easiest and most effective way to disengage the safety is, to catch it with my thumb just behind the knuckle and sweep it down as I'm drawing it from my holster.

Due to its low profile and location, this method works best for me.
