Most type of "bluing or coloring" does not react the same on Stainless as it does on Carbon Steel. I have seen the "coating methods" used with better success and that is what is more common.

To me the whole allure of Stainless is that it is capable of being left in the raw and brought to an acceptable and durable finish by bead blasting, polishing, and/or left natural. Covering it or coating it to me is sort of counter productive - but that's just me.
