There are very few departments that are buying new 3rd Gen guns. It's been mentioned before that S&W will only make new 3rd Gens if an agency insists and the alternative is losing the contract. WVSP and CHP come to mind.
The good news, is that they are going to have to provide warranty support for these guns going forward. Which means that some parts are likely to be available for the foreseeable future.

Yes, and from what I have heard, part of S&W warranty support is not only maintaining parts inventory, but some complete pistols as well, in case some have to be replaced under warranty.
