Default Recognize this stamp on a Model 10-9?..."MP 222"

I bought this Model 10-9 earlier this week. It shows cosmetic wear consistent with regular use but functions fine. Bobbed hammer is a "bubba" job but not terrible.

I am curious about the frame marking one the left side, above the trigger guard and below the cylinder. It appears to say "MP 222" or something like it. Leads me to believe that it was either a private security company, LEO, or similar revolver. The seller is former military. Said it came from Fayetteville, NC by Fort Bragg. Thought about MP as "military police" but that is a long shot.

So, anyone seen similar markings before? Thoughts?

I have already taken off the wood and installed the Barami Hip Grip, Tyler T Grip, and rubber combo for carry
