You can't put an AR in the safe position if the bolt isn't cocked. It's actually safer as it is than it would be on"safe"

With the carry handle sight, we were taught to shoot with "nose to charging handle" in the military. With the stock fully extended and that extension added, I'm guessing you are quite a ways back on that rifle. |
I'm just shy of 6'4" without the extension the rifle just feels cramped and uncomfortable when I get my head in a decent position for the sights.
