For the lighter loads , I would definitely recommend some Alliant Red Dot . It is much bulkier than 231 and has a faster burn rate . For lighter loads using light for caliber bullets I really like the faster powders .
I shoot a lot of 8 grs of 231 but with a 245 gr cast bullet , Keith swc . I would imagine you will have to do a little work to find the sweetspot for the bulllet and powder combination you are talking about . And for those light loads ( 44 spl type) , Red Dot would be my first choice , as I mentioned before . Good Luck , please keep us posted on your progress.
