I was thinking the same as you I changed the trigger return spring an the gritty trigger pull was gone I did smooth up some rough edges an I did change the trigger with one from Apex I have very smooth 5.5 lb. trigger pull I did notice some side pull when pulling the trigger even with out the slide mounted on the frame I shaved the back strap till almost straight now it's perfect
