Just in case anyone is interested, the word is spelled with a y (lynch).

And it does not mean "to hang by the neck until dead." It refers to a mob taking a person from legal custody (usually by force) to carry out "mob justice." In the 19th Century it usually ended in a hanging, but the hanging itself is not "lynching."
