I agree completely with Ed above on all points including the value.

It may have shipped from the factory later as many #s I have with shipping dates in my database indicate.

But you asked for manufacturing date and it's features indicate definitely before 1923 when MADE IN U.S.A. was stamped on the right side frame. And after 1920 when the medallions were deleted from the wood stocks and the S&W trademark logo was again stamped on the left side frame like it has.

I would suggest your friend shoot and enjoy it. All modern standard factory cartridges in 32 S&W Long are safe to shoot in it. It looks like it's in nice original condition.
