I have been very successful removing light scratches on stainless guns. By using the right grit ScotchBrite pad and VERY careful attention to keeping the strokes parallel and even, a light scratch can be removed without a trace to the naked eye. (Very high magnification might detect a difference in texture that cannot be seen by the naked eye.)

Any refinish will surely destroy the original look of the finish.
