It's a .38 Double Action, likely from the late 1880 decade. It is chambered for .38 S & W (not Special), still available and loaded light for older guns if yours is mechanically sound. It shows the usual nickel finish corrosion from black powder use and is worth in the $150-200 range. Hope this is helpful.
