I had the XDS in 45 and 9mm, didn't like it too much, trigger was horrible, didn't like the FO sights either, and it is kind of heavy gun. The shield is slimmer, lighter and cheaper, another option is the g43 but will cost you more. you can't go wrong with the shield, It is an awesome gun. I suggest trying to find a range where you can rent one. The shield 45 is very nice too, some people don't like the aggressive texture especially for carry. Only advantage of the 9c is the larger mag capacity, it depends which one conceals better for you.
