At the time I was looking at the S&W Shield .40 I was also looking at the Beretta Nano. (Thank goodness for the internet and the many reviews of the Nano.) The GLOCK 43 didn't exist and the Springfield XD didn't appeal to me.

The Shield's dimensions and handling qualities sold me. The reasonable price didn't hurt either. I have been carrying the Shield for some time now and am very pleased with its handling and accuracy.
