Precisely why empty-chambering is such a horrendously bad idea. There was actually a pretty good article in
The Blue Press (sorry, can't remember the month), which described an incident in which a guy died precisely because his chamber was empty. He was holding a door closed against his pistol-armed assailant, and lost control when he tried to chamber a round. He was pushed back into the room, and the attacker shot him dead.
