As you probably know, buying ammo on-line in case lots, from companies like SGAmmo, is both easy and less expensive. But your home state takes that option away. Too bad.

Obviously .22LR stretches the ammo budget, if you have the urge for some trigger time.
Another avenue for shooting that supplies a lot of fun for potentially relatively low cost is informal sporting clays.

Our local DNR range offers clays launchers and range time for free. An adequate shotgun can be had for reasonable money, and by swapping a shorter barrel, make a great HD gun also. Clays and shells can be found for a reasonable price as well.
$20 gets me 2x 25-round 12ga clay shooting sets, and that's a lot of fun for the money.
