A carry gun is a tool to kill someone with. Not a range toy or an accessory like a nice watch. It is to jam upside a carjacker's temple in order to remove his brains from his cranium while he is trying to jab a screwdriver in your jugular so you can go home to your kids.
If you actually carry it every day it will get scratched, worn, beat up etc. You can't prevent that. Think of a carry gun like a pair of shoes. IF you wear them everyday, they will show their use - there is no way around it.
