The original end label on the box is in all likelihood an accurate description of how the gun was built and left the factory regardless of what anybody's recollection is. That said, the only way to know for sure is to "letter" the gun. The gun also could have been sent back to Springfield for rework before the original retail owner took possession. Model 28's were frequently reworked by the gun shops before sale with the addition of target options such as stocks, triggers and hammers.
