I'll offer two suggestions - buy a sight from S&W or have glasses made that eliminate the problem instead of altering your gun.

As the photo below shows, S&W did make 1911s with a fiber-optic front sight. This is a PC gun from 1989 in .38 Super.



I assume they might have replacement parts for that gun. I found that "glow worm" sight didn't offer a sharp, exact sight picture like a black Patridge front sight and have since replaced it with a Patridge like the one that came on your gun, which is the vastly preferred front sight for target work.



For glasses that will permit your aging eyes (I'm 70) to see both your gun's sights AND the target clearly, contact Morgan Sports Optics at (716) 379-8773.
