Also try the Speer 200 grain Gold Dot ammo.
It has worked well for me in a variety of 44 specials and leaves no lead.
Reloading with 6-6.5 grains Universal or Unique and that same bullet yields a duplicate load.
Even cheaper to buy Starline brass and start from scratch.
I prefer the nickel plate but that's just me.
I sometimes use a leather cartridge carrier.
These are Spegel extended boot grips on a 3" 624 (ebony).

Take a look at the Altamont conversion Target grips.
They are well made and fit my hands (which are admittedly larger than normal).
S&W uses these on several models.
