This is an example of a silica blasted "police trade in" 5906. After a complete disassembly and parts exam, I replaced the magazine catch spring, grip, rear sight, recoil spring, and the firing pin spring with OEM parts. Also installed a "decock only" manual safety lever. Some minor pitting remains under the grip's edges, but is not visible.

Just celebrated a birthday....manufactured March 06, 1992. Not bad for a 25 year old service gun. If properly cared for, the 5906 and the other 3rd Gen guns are very durable pistols for the most part. Especially the all stainless ones.

The all stainless variants are fairly easy to re-hab, if you desire.
