Since there's been so much feedback on my problem I thought I'd post that I rounded the offending edges with a fine jewelers file, touched it up with some gun blue on the end of a tiny foam brush, washed and rinsed, then oiled it up. I'll be curious to see how the finish holds up, but the initial problem has been solved.
