Some only buy the SS GRA for looks, as you stated. I bought (3) of them; (1) each for my SW40VE & SD40VE. (1) for my SD9VE, which I tried that (1) in both of the 9mm's. I didn't see any change in shooting them. But, in the 40's, they actually helped keep muzzle rise down, somewhat. It was not worth the risk of damaging my guns, so I went back with the factory GRA's.
While I'm here commenting, I highly recommend that you buy and install a wide take down bar. I have the Glock version installed in all (5) of my fantastic plastic guns. Tip; a Glock take down bar will work in all of the SD & SW models. And, they are cheaper in price.
