I had this issue with a non-S&W, I was firing 115gr jacketed target rounds and it did the same, I switched to a 124gr hollow point and the last round locked the slide back. tried again with 115's and DID NOT LOCK. My pistol had around 150 rounds through it at the time between cleanings.
