A factory Winchester .45-70 cartridge with a 300 grain hollow point fired from a Browning Model 1886 rifle: the bullet went all the way through and the damage it made to the gelatin block came close to splitting it in half. I am a big fan of the modern .45-70 cartridge, and I would not want to be shot with one.
