When shooting from a table, a friend of min uses a contraption that looks like a small soccer goal with a fine mess net. He uses for 22's through 45's and on semi-automatic rifles 22's through 308. It works great from a bench.

For standing I set up a 12' by 15' painters drop cloth, and stand about a foot and a half from the left edge. it catches about 90-95% of pistol cases. If shooting in 4" grass, that is all I recover, and this way I don't waste a good portion of my life pecking like a chicken for brass.

I don't bother with any catcher or tarp with 9mm or pocket auto brass. We just pick up what we find and go celebrate another fine shooting session come to a close!
