I think the lube fouling is the biggest problem. I've shot hundreds of cast rounds through my 9mm AAC Illusion in the month that I've had it. All were powder coat and there isn't any build up of leading. I'm planning on getting a Rossi R92 in .357 and getting the barrel threaded once they become available again.

I wouldn't shoot regular lubed lead bullets unless you're planning on doing a detailed cleaning very regularly.

I've shot a couple hundred .22's through it also. Most .22 rounds don't have the same type of semi-liquid lube that a centerfire rounds typically uses. But .22 rounds are generally much dirtier than other rounds.

I have done one total strip down and cleaning of mine and it was a pain. Just the build up of carbon gets everywhere and isn't easy to clean. Imagine cleaning the muffler of you car.
