That's peculiar. The full-size M&P .40 is the standard issue sidearm of California State Parks, and has that logo, although that obviously is not the way it's supposed to look. My time with the Parks was before this adoption, during the 4006 times when the script was on the right side of the slide.
PS: I do not know whether the logo is done at the factory or in Sacramento somewhere. California buys guns in bulk; that's why most state agencies carry the same sidearm; if CHP adopts a new handgun, all state LEO's end up with the same gun.
If your gun does NOT have the slide logo, and was bought new, that would indicate the stamping is a factory job and something "non-standard" happened for your gun to end up with an accidentally marked barrel.
