A very early postwar .38 M&P. I show some with very nearby serial numbers that shipped on March 8, 1946. There are a few more with slightly higher numbers that left the factory on March 20. I believe it is a near certainty that yours shipped that month. I have yet to find a single postwar M&P with the prewar stocks that shipped later than March of 1946.

The highest serial number I've found with a March, 1946, ship date is S816865. That example has a 4" barrel and lives in my safe. There are some with serial numbers lower than that which shipped in April and there was a group in the S815xxx range that shipped to the Cleveland Police Department in February, 1946.

Except for the oddly marked VS8134xx (mentioned earlier in this thread), the highest SV number I have located is SV813132. That gun shipped on April 4, 1946, and has a 5" barrel.
