Propellants are formulated differently for different tasks. What works in a 9mm may not work worth a damn in, say, the .45 Colt and vice versa.
Bob Nosler told me in an interview at NRA this year that reloading is a "recipe game." This is all about finding the right combination of powder, bullet and primer to do what you need done in the gun you have.
