My Ruger 77/44 synthetic stock had "cheese grater" molded in "checkering" on the grip and fore end. It was down right painful after awhile. I carefully taped off the areas and used a Dremel to grind down the areas and applied TALON rubber material to the stock....problem solved. Looks custom and feels great. Check it out.

That looks great on the Ruger. I was thinking about getting the 45 Shield but did not care for the overly aggressive abrasive texture (maybe I am getting soft and sassy in my old age) and might do exactly what you did as my dremel has been gathering dust and is ready for another project
