Default Why one SHOULD carry a round in the chamber!

Earlier today, there was an armed robbery at the service plaza on the Atlantic City Expressway, and authorities are not sharing much information about it. This is the story as reported by the Philadelphia affiliate of ABC: http://6abc.com/suspect-crashes-afte...chase/2281122/ . There is more to the story!

It was tweeted by "scan Atlantic City" that a man armed with a machete carjacked a motorist in Philadelphia that was legally carrying, but was unable to ward off his assailant because he didn't have a round chambered. The assailant then DISARMED the motorist and kept the weapon. The man then drove to Atlantic City, and on his return to Philadelphia, stopped for gas at the only service plaza on the expressway. The gas pumps that he went to are no more than 150 YARDS from the Expressway State Police barracks, and he proceded to commit an armed robbery at the gas station. An attendant got the plate number, and the police apparently were on the lookout. It seems that the culprit was involved in a number of high speed chases in NJ and Pa before being apprehended in Pennsylvania after striking a number of cars.

However, it gets better! Apparently, the motorist that was carjacked, was a SEPTA employee, and a good possibility he/she is a transit authority cop. I do not know which arm SEPTA transit cops carry, but I would not be surprised if they carried Glocks. It has not been reported that the carjacked victim was a transit cop, that is me drawing a conclusion based on the facts.

In reflection, had the "victim" been carrying with a round in the chamber, there is a very good chance that:
A. ... the machete carrying carjacker would have met his maker,
B. ... the armed robbery within spitting distance of the state police station would not have occurred,
C. ... a number of high speed chases would not have ensued, and
D. ... a number of vehicles would not have been damaged in the subsequent chase leading to apprehension.

Just a side note, a number of state laws in NJ were broken, but it leads one to wonder if any state firearms charges will be filed, since it was reported last week that an armed carjacker in North Jersey plea bargained away EVERY firearms charge filed in that case. Remember, in New Jersey, gun laws seem to exist only to hinder the law abiding!
