I have a couple of .40 Glocks with both a .40 & 9mm barrel (neither threaded though) & they shoot either caliber just fine.
In fact I can even use the 40 mags with 9mm without issue.

I saw Lenny Magill try 9mm in .40 mags on one of his videos without any issues. I've never tried it in any of my glock conversions but if it works, then why not... obviously not for a defense gun but for a range you I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as it didn't cause a catastrophic malfunfunction.
Definitely check out the apex barrels! I'm thinking about grabbing one of the ported performance center uppers that S&W is selling in .40 and then also getting one of the apex conversion barrels for it. Their barrels aren't ported but I don't care much on a 9mm. .40 is really fun to shoot with a compensator.
