Yes, I think you did okay for sure.
The only Model 59 for sale near me right now is blue and listed at $599... a used gun, but I'm assuming it's in pretty decent condition at that price.
Our MA AWB law, essentially a continuation of the 1994-2004 Federal AWB, allows us to own hi-cap magazines if they were made before the start of the 1994 Federal AWB... so original Model 59 magazines easily qualify. So do all original S&W 2nd Gen magazines and S&W 3rd Gen magazines manufactured up until September 13, 1994.
So for newer hi-cap plastic wonder guns, other than Glocks and S&W Sigma derivatives, we are mostly out of luck... but that still allows us to own hi-caps (if "pre-ban") for guns like the Sig P226, Sig P229, Browning Hi-Power, Beretta 92SF, CZ 75B, etc. in addition to the S&W 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen semi-autos.
I've even been able to obtain several old "pre-ban" Para Ordnance P14 magazines for my new RI 1911A2.
