Nice rifle. I like the 6.5 x 55 and can shoot all day with it.
I have a 1908 Carl Gustav parts rifle that I've trimmed up for deer hunting. Got rid of the top hand guard and rear military sights and mounted a Lyman 57 receiver sight. Then trimmed back the front of the barrel and had a used Remington ramp front installed, with an ivory bead. Also had the bolt bent.
It's a very quick handling, accurate, fast on target set up that has brought in more than a few whitetails. Not much to look at but perfect for those days when the weather is in the sloppy wet, scope fogging category.
You might want to see how it shoots without the hand guard and barrel band.
