1. An AR-15 does not have a drop in the stock like a traditional rifle does, so mounting a scope close to the barrel is not really an option... it would be too low to get a good cheek weld.
2. The front sight on his rifle isn't just a front sight. It is also the gas block. The rifle doesn't work without one, so it is kind of a big deal...
