Well, I'll take a stab at this.
First you got to own and carry more than one gun.
And if you pack a pistol on a farm or in a car/truck or on you as a woods gun, they sometimes get left behind. Most of the time you remember and go back to retrieve it.
My "lost gun" story (I have a few) goes like this.
I "lost" a Colt Jr once. That's a .25 acp that's a little bigger that 2 Zippo lighters, and could not for the life of me remember where it was.
Well summer turned to fall and fall to winter and I put on my ol' leather jacket and lo'& behold the little gun was in the inside breast pocket, right where I left it!
