Interesting - you are correct. I did a search and 952's are a mixed bag. That corresponds to a story I was told that S&W came out with the model to use up old parts. The earlier versions, such as the one you posted, have sights that look to mount like the older Model 41 sights did, which was a "T" slot cut in the slide. I wish someone would write a book detailing all the sights used on various guns over the years -- not likely as it would no doubt enjoy a very small readership!
