It isn't mandatory here if that's what you're asking.
In general, I would suggest it's the
duty of every American, including gun owners, to read and understand the Constitution. If more folks did this I believe the default position would be to defend against all Federal 2A infringements instead of picking and choosing the infringement flavor of the week for capitulation.
