Your guess would be 100% correct. The Rossi 44 mag that Academy sold IS a Taurus - a Taurus 44C to be exact.
They even have the "44C" model number etched in the yoke cut.
The only thing different about them is the Rossi name etched on the side of the barrel and the red fiber-optic front sight.
