What do you call this part of the magazine? I am trying to find a replacement part for it for my Shield magazine. (You probably read my post about how my Shield blew up)

The magazine doesn't look damaged. I can easily find a replacement floor plate, but I couldn't find a replacement for that part circled in red because I don't know what it is called.

Thanks in advance!

Magazine insert or magazine locking plate?

It might be worth a quick call to S&W Customer Service -- I bet they would send you one for free.

Speed Shooter Specialties probably has the floor plate retainers, and maybe Brownell's or Midway. But call S&W, like Rover said, they'd send you one for free.

Up until a little while ago that part was called the buttplate catch, but in new literature it's been renamed to the floorplate catch. FWIW, "floorplate" seems to have become a common term among manufacturers.

Reminds me of when the center rail on the bottom of the slide, which strips the top round from the magazine and pushes it forward for feeding, used to be called the "stripper rail". It stripped the top round from the magazine, after all. Nowadays it's common for it to be called the "pickup rail" (it picks up the top round). I guess somebody decided that "stripper" rail was too insensitive.

Nomenclature changes over time. Sometimes for simplification, and sometimes to keep current with social norms.
