Well, Smith certainly didn't tool-up to make one 1911 slide and one 1911 frame, even if the gun was being built for Roy Jinks.
So where did those parts come from? Perhaps one of the Federal arsenals (e.g., Rock Island), friends at the AMU at Ft. Benning, the Bullseye Fairy's secret stash?
I still have the strange sense that something is not right in the Universe when I see a 1911 emblazoned with Smith and Wesson markings. I shot a heavyslide like this for a while in competition, and I will say that they are soft-shooting pistols, for sure.
