The gap is closing, as you note. I had always expected that there would be a transition
somewhere, meaning that there would be some serial numbers that do not fit the pattern perfectly. We know that the revolvers were not made, or shipped, in serial number order.

In this case, either its 7546 & 7583, or its 7676. Its perhaps possible that the caliber roll marking was implemented as of a shipping date. If that were the case, then we would see a good alignment based on shipping date.
