About 5 years ago, I bought a 4004 "almost like new" which turned to have a problem with not dropping magazines 60-80% of the time. Looking closely, I decided that the ejector was bent just barely enough to touch the magazine, keeping it from dropping free. An email inquiry to S&W, mentioning only the problem and not anything about warranty or original owner, got me a shipping label. I included a letter describing the problem and what I thought was the cause. Ten days later, I got the pistol back with a new ejector and no more problem. No questions from S&W, just excellent service.
