Bill, Richard aways calls me for an opinion on asking prices vs. reality on any collectable S&Ws he gets in the store. I think I told him he would never get a grand for the SS you are discussing, as the barrel was an unnumbered replacement, if the buyer, like you, knew what the gun should be. A local source has been feeding him a large S&W collection, piece by piece, over the last couple years. Ed.
